Volunteering + Teaching = VOLUNTEACHING
Have you wanted ever wanted to take a "working vacation"? My goal for www.volunteaching.com is to have a volunteer teaching program implemented throughout different countries at a reasonable cost to the volunteer.
In 2008, I volunteered in Thailand teaching English. In my research to find an appropriate charity to volunteer with I realized that many Charities were asking for you, the person volunteering your TIME, to pay the charity upwards of $500-$1000 PER MONTH to donate your time to them. This appalled me. Not only are you losing a month of time that you could be working and making money, you are then being asked to pay a large fee to volunteer with a charity. That's a double blow to the checkbook!

Luckily, I did find a reasonably priced charity that only asked for a small fee of $200/mo to cover charity costs. My host , a teacher in a local school, was expected to feed me three times a day and house me, but later told me that none of the money donated to the charity made its way to the host. His "payoff" was to have a foreigner teaching in his school. Through my own contacts, I was able to raise US$400 to donate to the school in the form of scholarships.
I would soon like to create a list of potential schools, in country coordinators, and in country hosts that would like to have their contact information posted on this page for any potential volunteers. This is still a grassroots operation at this level and would require the volunteer to DIRECTLY coordinate with the coordinator/hosts.
AT THIS POINT IN CREATION OF THE CHARITY I WOULD STRONGLY URGE YOU TO CHOOSE ONE OF TWO OPTIONS:
Option 1: A donation of $200USD Option 2: A donation of $160
-Room will be provided -Room will be provided
-Meals will be provided -4 scholarships to students
-4 scholarships to students

Joop has traveled to The United States and Australia. She was my host in 2008 and I had an incredible time. Her school is 35km from Khon Kaen, where you can enjoy small city life as well as the country life. If you choose to stay longer, and need to do a border run to renew your visa, it can be done in less than a day by taking the bus to the Laos border.
